Hi friends.
For about two years now I’ve been sending out drive-by emails to you via my private email address whether you wanted to receive them or not. I’m switching to Substack now in an effort to free you from my chaos. If you’d like to hear from me occasionally and discover what I’m up to, then do stay! If you’d like to opt out, congratulations! That opportunity is now available to you!
In the meantime, here are some tiny bits of good news from this baby author:
Halley Sutton, whose prose is so exquisite I have to put her books down sometimes so I can breathe again, interviewed me for her newsletter! She’s the author of The Lady Upstairs and The Hurricane Blonde, and if you want smart, feminist prose and an LA noir setting, then she is absolutely the one for you. If you don’t know her newsletter, Too Many Tabs, hit that subscribe button because it’s delightful. I’ve received so many excellent recommendations from it, from tv shows to watch (Portrait Artist of the Year is fab) to books to read (Disappearing Earth by Julia Philipps was an instant buy) and Bookstagrammers to follow.
My book, History Lessons, is already on a “to-read” list! NetGalley placed it on their list of 25 books to read by Black authors in 2025, and some of the other names on it are, um, terrifyingly intimidating? Nnedi Okorafor (Who Fears Death had a girl SHAKING), Shawn Cosby, Rachel Howzell Hall, and Adriana Hererra, are just a few authors whose books are also coming out this year.
You can still enter to win a free copy of my book via the goodreads giveaway! Or, you know, pre-order it or something.
Catch ya later.
